Zhenzhong Hu

    He received both his BE and PhD degree in the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University, China. He was a visiting researcher in Carnegie Mellon University.
    He is now the associate professor in Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, and also the secretary general of the BIM Specialty Committee of the China Graphics Society.
    His research interests include information technologies in civil and marine engineering, building information modeling (BIM) and digital disaster prevention and mitigation.

    Tsinghua University carried out the deep reformation in the admissions for PHD students, which greatly promoted the "Application-Review System", weakened the requirements of entrance examinations, and emphasized the evaluation of academic potential and comprehensive ability of students by academic committees. On September 20th, Yuan Shuang, an undergraduate student in the department of civil engineering won a valuable PHD quota after interviews. He will be the first PhD student who is directly under my supervision and will enter our group in the 2017 summer.

    The "Fundamental of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Technology" course was started three years ago and became popular now. Thirty quotas were not satisfied with students who had high passions in this course. Many students requested to increase the quotas of the course or even just auditing. This year, the teaching team will summarize the teaching experience on previous two years, reform the course contents and teaching methods, guide students to use independent intellectual property rights BIM-based platform of Tsinghua University to finish the homework. We will also encourage them to become interested in independent research and developments of software and hardware for the AEC industry based on the BIM-based basic knowledge and skills. This course is a professional optional course mainly for junior students, which was set up by Jianping Zhang, Zhiliang Ma, and I, who are the professor and associate professor from the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University.

    Professor Miroslaw J.Skibniewski, chief editor of a renowned SCI journal Automation in Construction, and a well-known scholar in the field of information technology for construction from University of Maryland, visited the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University and gave a keynote talk entitled "Creativity in Construction Engineering: Past, presented and Future" on September 8th, 2016. Then he had in-depth discussions with my group on the topics of BIM-based Information sharing and planning platform, data mining and machine learning in operation & maintenance phrase on September 9th, 2016.

    The summit forum of BIM-based application for construction engineering and the transformation ceremony of BIM-based achievements by our group were hosted by CBIM Beijing Co., Ltd., in the first floor of Beijing Olympics Linglong Tower on the afternoon of July 30th, 2016. Quite a few well-known experts in the industry, including more than 500 people from various fields in engineering construction, witnessed the historical moment and shared the BIM-based typical successful application examples.
