Zhenzhong Hu

    He received both his BE and PhD degree in the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University, China. He was a visiting researcher in Carnegie Mellon University.
    He is now the associate professor in Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, and also the secretary general of the BIM Specialty Committee of the China Graphics Society.
    His research interests include information technologies in civil and marine engineering, building information modeling (BIM) and digital disaster prevention and mitigation.

    The experts and other technicians from Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., LTD., gave reports and discussed on the "Research and Demonstration for Intelligence Construction and Operation and Maintenance of Key Technologies" on April 26th. The research team reported the one-year achievement of sub-projects "Operation and Maintenance Management in Regenerated Water Plants based on BIM and IoT" during the meeting.

    The Third International Conference on Informatization in Civil and Building Engineering (the third ICCBEI), hosted by National Taiwan University, was held in Taibei from March 19th to 21st. ICCBEI was organized by the Asian civil engineering information technology association every two years, and it was one of the vital international academic conference in the computer-aided engineering in civil and building engineering field. Yunyi Zhang, from the research team, gave a presentation entitled "How Information Technology Can Improve Construction Management for General Contractor: A Case Study" in one of the conference sections.

    Dr. Xuesong (Pine) Liu, assistant research professor and doctoral supervisor in the department of civil and environmental engineering in Carnegie Mellon University, the co-founder and chief technician of LeanFM Technologies, visited the Department of Civil Engineering in Tsinghua University and gave an academic lecture entitled "Advanced infrastructure management using sensing, information modeling and artificial intelligence" to the faculties and students. Then he had further discussions on the research construction and cooperative projects with our group.

    Our team made a report on the project achievements of the "BIM-based Management System on Rail Transit Information Model (Second Phase)" to the experts invited by the Construction Supervision Company of Guangzhou Metro. Based on the development works, including system management, resource management, quality management, schedule management, safety management, assessment management, delivery managementt, we established the "BIM-based Management System on Rail Transit" and developed the BIM-based standards and guidance by the need of fine construction management and digital delivery. The verification on the 6 lines of Guangzhou Metro was obviously fruitful. It was an outstanding model for BIM-based applications on Rail Transit.

    The "Packet Switch" meeting on doctoral tutorial supervisor was held by the department of civil engineering and the department of construction management. Professor Hongyu Liu, chair of Academic Degrees Committee, proposed firstly to pay special attention on the quality of cultivating PhD students, especially the standard requirements of canonical academy and the exactness of degree authorization. Professor Linhai Han, deputy dean of the school of civil and hydraulic engineering, had experience on the topic selection of Doctoral Dissertations, the cultivation quality of PhD students, and the Coordination of Relations between tutors and PhD students, and he advocated to establish the cooperative relationship between tutors and PhD students. Prof. Qiang Yao, dean of graduate school, and other professors had some experiences on the background of school reformation, and he point out that strictly implement the admission institutions for PhD students. Other 14 doctoral tutorial supervisors participated in the conference, and it was my honor to receive the certificate on the seminar of doctoral tutorial supervisors.
