Zhenzhong Hu

    He received both his BE and PhD degree in the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University, China. He was a visiting researcher in Carnegie Mellon University.
    He is now the associate professor in Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, and also the secretary general of the BIM Specialty Committee of the China Graphics Society.
    His research interests include information technologies in civil and marine engineering, building information modeling (BIM) and digital disaster prevention and mitigation.

    On August 5th, we held a discussion meeting for the preparations for the Fifth National BIM Academic Conference in Changsha, with Professor Jianping Zhang, Weilu Jia, chair and secretary of BIM professional committee of China Graphics Society, and Jun Wang, Xiaoyu Ma, director and assistant direct of CMIG Drawin Technology Group Limited, and Yousan Zhang, dean of Institute of Information and other principals in charge of the unit in CMIG Drawin Technology Group Limited.

    End up with the 6-month visiting to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, US. I'd like to express my gratitude to the reception from the cooperative tutor Burcu Akinci. Though time was short, I learned the sectific research and teaching methods in well-known American universities, practiced the opportunities of interdisciplinary subjects, and expericed the American culture life by making friends. I will start a new journey with infinite encourage and motivation in the future. Wish my colleagues and friends in US will be better and have bright futures!

    I visted the School of Construction of Arizona State University on July 19th and the School of Construction Management Technology of Purdue University on July 22th, gave academic lectures on "From Data to Knowledge" and "Key Technologies of BIM Applications in MEP Engineering", as well as the School of Building Construction of Georgia Institute of Technology. Through these communications, I had a better unstanding in the development status and frontiers in the informationization development of civil engineering in US. Thanks for the passional reception from Pingbo Tang, from ASU, Yi Jiang, Jiansong Zhang, Yunfeng Chen, from Purdue, and Xinyi Song, from GeorgiaTech, and other teachers and students during these days.

    Our new article entitled "A Self-Learning Dynamic Path Planning Method for Evacuation in Large Public Buildings Based on Neural Networks" has been published online in "Neurocomputing". This study is one of a series of achievements in the application of machine learning technology in civil engineering. Evacuation path planning is of significant importance to safely and efficiently evacuate occupants inside public buildings. How to promote the personnel to complete evacuation in rapid, safe and sequential situation is an appreciable issue during design and operation & maintenance phrase. This study proposed the training according to a real large public building and then the approach managed to provide rapid and feasible evacuation guidance for both occupants to escape in multiple scenarios and managers to design the evacuation strategy.

    Langtao Wu successfully passed his undergraduate graduation defense in the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University. His research topic is "Data Automatic Acquisition on the Knowledge of MEP". The research tries to acquire the basic data of MEP knowledge mapping by the technologies of knowledge engineering and natural language processing to identify and extract the relationships of the entitits by collecting language materials. Then a web-based visualization tool was developed to vividly show the automated generated knowledge. The presentation file with voice has been added to "Resources" section.
