Zhenzhong Hu

    He received both his BE and PhD degree in the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University, China. He was a visiting researcher in Carnegie Mellon University.
    He is now the associate professor in Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, and also the secretary general of the BIM Specialty Committee of the China Graphics Society.
    His research interests include information technologies in civil and marine engineering, building information modeling (BIM) and digital disaster prevention and mitigation.

    The Fourth National BIM Academic Conference was jointly held by BIM Specialty Committee of China Graphic Society, the China Railway BIM Alliance and the China Railway Group Limited, and organized by the China Railway Fourth Bureau Co., Ltd., from November 24th to 25th, 2018, in Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province. Chunfang Lu, academician of Chinese academy of engineering and chairman of China Railway Society attended the conference. Liming Sheng, vice chairman of China Railway BIM Alliance, Professor Jiaheng Gan, project director of the Comprehensive Facilities Engineering Center of Stanford University, Dong Zou, CPC committee secretary of the Construction Department of Guangzhou Metro and Jun Wu, deputy general manager of the China Railway Fourth Bureau Co., Ltd. were invited to give keynote presentations. Over 500 people from multiple national provinces and cities, including teachers and students, as well as leaders, chief engineers, and BIM technicians from construction companies attended the conference. Xingyi Yu, the minister of the technology and informationization department of China Railway Group Limited, and me as the general secretary of the BIM Specialty Committee, hosted the keynote speeches in the morning.

    More than 40 specialty committee members attended The Fifth Annual Meeting of the BIM Specialty Committee of China Graphic Society, in the evening of The Fourth National BIM Academic Conference. Professor Jianping Zhang, the chair of BIM Specialty Committee, awarded certificates to eighteen new specialty committee members. As the secretary general of the BIM Specialty Committee, I made a 2018 annual work report to all the attended committees. The report mainly includes activities such as the National BIM Academic Conference, BIM lectures, the "Longtu Cup" National BIM Competition and National BIM-Technology Level Examination. Subsequently, Menggang Huang, deputy secretary general of the specialty committee presented the 2019 Annual Plan. Finally all the members discussed fervently on the BIM development in China.

    Miroslaw J. Skibniewski, professor of University of Maryland, was engaged as the honorary professor of Tsinghua University on November 21st. At the engaging ceremony, Prof. Skibniewski made a presentation entitle "New Opportunities and Research Gaps in Automatic Construction and Robotic Technology Transformation". Bin Yang, the provost and vice-principal of Tsinghua University, awarded the certificate. Professor Dongping Fang, CPC committee secretary of the School of Civil Engineering, hosted this ceremony. The research team attended this ceremony and had academic discussions with him.

    The research team had academic discussions with Professor Jacob Beetz, from the Architecture College of German RWTH Aachen University in the afternoon of November 21st, 2018. Students Yaqi Xiao and Shuang Yuan, presented the research achievements on "Automatically generating MEP logic relationships from building information models with identification rules" and "Geometric Optimization of Building Information Models in MEP Projects: Algorithms and Techniques for Improving Storage, Transmission and Display" to Prof. Beetz. Prof. Beetz also presented his relevant research on BIM Server and IFC.

    The progress report of Glodon Software Company Limited-Tsinghua University Building Information Modeling Joint Research Centre was held in Glodon Building Phase II in the morning of November 21st, 2018. The directors and undertakers of the project respectively reported the recent achievements of 9 scientific research projects in last year. The research team presented the achievements on "Acquisition and Analysis Techniques of Dynamic Information based on BIM". In addition, the second batch of research topics were permitted and the proposed research on "Knowledge Graph and Intelligent Search Technology in MEP Field" was approved in this meeting.
