Congratulations to Leng Shuo for successfully passing the doctoral dissertation defense of department of civil engineering of Tsinghua University!

Leng Shuo's doctoral thesis is entitled "Analysis and Application of Wind Environment During Building Operation and Maintenance Period Based on Multiscale Modeling and Data-driven Methods". This study introduces two core technologies of multi-scale numerical simulation and deep learning to improve the existing wind environment analysis methodology, and constructs an original wind environment analysis framework towards the building Operation and Maintenance (O&M) process based on multi-scale modeling and data-driven methods. Combining the technologies of wind environment data management, data application and platform development, this study proposes a comprehensive solution including theories, technologies, methods and platforms for building wind environment analysis in the O&M period. Dr. Leng Shuo's research achievements during the period of rich, won the reviewers and defense committee praise!

Congratulations to  Guo Xueqing and Lin Chao for successfully passing the thesis defense of Master degree of Tsinghua University!

Among them, Guo Xueqing wrote a paper titled "Research on Multi-scale Two-dimensional Diffusion Numerical Simulation for Typical Marine Pollutants". This study delves deeply into the structure of marine environmental data and proposes a marine environmental information model framework.Furthermore, based on the physicochemical properties and diffusion characteristics of pollutants, we propose a two-dimensional diffusion simulation analysis model for various typical pollutants in the ocean under multi-scale spatiotemporal conditions, from both macro and micro perspectives. Utilizing C#, Python, and WinForm technologies, we developed a marine environment and pollutant diffusion visualization application system. This system achieves an efficient data engine, automated information services, and automation of the pollutant diffusion simulation analysis workflow. Finally, we apply and analyze the proposed models and system functions.

Lin Chao's thesis title is "Research on Smart Maturity Assessment System for the Construction Stage of Engineering". This research firstly summarized the composition framework of systems to assess the smart maturity in the construction stage of engineering. Then, two quantitative smart maturity assessment systems were established using this framework respectively for construction management and floating wind turbine installation. Finally, this study selected smart measures for actual development referring to the proposed smart maturity assessment system for floating wind turbine installation projects so that a digital twin framework was established, and the positive effect of this system was verified through analysis.

Data-Driven Quantitative Performance Evaluation of Construction Supervisors has been published in the journal Buildings.

The performances of construction supervisors are essential for the monitoring, control, and coordination of the construction process of a project in order to adhere to a predefined schedule, cost, quality and other factors. However, it is challenging to evaluate their performance due to limitations such as data deficiency, human error, etc. Thus, this paper proposes an approach to data-driven quantitative performance evaluation of construction supervisors by integrating an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and activity tracking. The proposed approach contains three parts, namely, index extraction, weighting, data-driven index calculation, and then validation by case study. Firstly, performance indexes were developed based on a literature review as well as surveys and function analysis of the information system for construction supervision (CSI system). Then, the weights of and relationships among of the indexes are determined by AHP. After that, with daily workflow and inspection activities tracked in the CSI system, a method and a software module for automatic calculation of indexes were developed. Lastly, the proposed approach was validated by a real-world case. The result showed that the proposed approach can quantify the performance of a construction supervisor systematically and automatically, which shed lights on how to evaluate the performance of a worker based on the tracking of daily activities. The data-driven process enhanced our strong interpretation of member actions and evaluation indexes, and can boost the performance of every member in an organization.
