Research Introduction

【Academic features】

    Hu, Zhenzhong has been engaged in civil engineering information technology and digital disaster research work for many years, and gradually formed two complementary research mainlines of theoretical study and practical application.
    For theoretical studies, Hu focuses on the cross-integration of traditional disciplines of civil engineering and modern disciplines of information technology, relying on the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Postdoctoral Science Foundation funding and successional funding, and the "Eleventh Five-Year" scientific and technological support of National Longitudinal research projects etc. These researches tried to improve the building information sharing and application by adopting BIM and 4D which are advanced and applicable information technologies. Hu carried out some fundamental researches about the information accessible, management, integration, sharing and application, and applied the results to solve the problems of time-dependent structure theory of safety analysis during the construction process. Hu has published 30 papers and some of the related research achievements have been incorporated into one local regulation and one national standard (in progressing) .
    In practical applications, Hu focuses on transforming the scientific research to improve the technological development of building industry and related enterprises. Hu has some chances to acquire requirements from key projects of the nation or the provinces, or from key enterprises. Relying on a combination of a number of specific project research projects, Hu develops a series of software systems. These systems are applied to the Qingdao Bay Bridge, Guangzhou West Tower, Kunming new airport terminal, Shanghai international financial center, Shenzhen Airport T3 Terminal, Shenzhen Kerry Centre Phase II, IKEA Beijing, etc. Most of the projects are large-scale construction projects that invested thousands of million US dollars.
    Hu has won the first prize of China Construction Science and Technology Award for two times (2009, 2010), and also a third prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.

【Academic Innovations】

A process the structural safety analysis method based on BIM during construction was proposed based on the conversion between multiple models and information sharing mechanism.

    Based on the study on the transformation among building models, structural models, structural analysis models and among the design models, the construction models and operation and maintenance models, as well as the information sharing mechanism, the BIM-based time-dependent structural safety analysis method during construction was proposed by combining the time-dependent structural analysis theory with 4D-BIM technology. Then two BIM-systems were developed to realize the dynamic mechanical analysis of variable structures and scaffold systems during construction. The method and the systems provide new technical methods of achieving dynamic structural analysis for structure itself and scaffold system during construction. In this manner, construction-reliable design and continual mechanical analysis during construction can be achieved to ensure the safety of structural design and construction. The research achievement was invited as an international academic conference report in 2010, arousing the concerns from both academic and industrial peers. A series of 2 papers were published in Automation in Construction which is a highly respected international academic journal. Currently, there is another original paper was published in Computer-Aided Civil And Infrastructure Engineering (IF 4.46, 2012). In addition, the research achievement also serves as the main results of a sub-project of the national "Eleventh Five-Year" plan in China.

An information management and digital disaster prevention method for the existing building during operation and maintenance was proposed based on the inspection, analysis and evaluation tools for in-service structure.

    Based on the study on the detection, analysis and evaluation tools of the existing structures and facilities, combining with cloud computing, networking, WebGIS and BIM, an inspection management system for existing bridges and a BIM-based intelligent facility management system were developed. On the other hand, the accumulation of theoretical and technical during these researches were introduced to several standards or regulations including the "Regulation of safety inspection and evaluation for Shenzhen historical building " (local regulations) and "Chinese BIM application of uniform standards" (GB). The research results have been awarded the "Innovation Cup" BIM Design Competition Best Development Application Award hosted by the China Survey and Design Association, 2 first prizes in the "National BIM Application Competition" hosted by the China Construction Industry Association, and 1 second prize in the "Long Tu Cup National BIM Competition" hosted by the China Graphics Society.
